In the culture section of chapter 06 of Ecce Romani we are introduced to Roman slavery with the purchase of the slave Davus. Chapter 07 contains more information about slaves on large Roman farms.

Latin nouns have various endings.  The endings are determined by what DECLENSION (noun family) they belong to. There are five declensions.   The endings signal the role of the noun in a sentence: subject, possessive, indirect object, direct object and object of a preposition.  These roles and their forms are called CASES. Write out the Latin sentences in Exercise 5b, supplying the correct subject or direct object. Then translate the sentence. KEY to this exercise is on the next  page of this post. Go over correct answers with students so they can correct any errors in their work.   Do this briskly.
